Antarctic Visit Eased By Airline

September 3rd, 2010 |

You will get to experience things that other travelers won’t.  One of the amazing things to witness is when the compass needle changes polarity due to the magnetic forces at work in the south pole. A far distance below the cozy flight, the sea of ice is carved into waves by strong, unforgiving winds rocketing to the coast. Even this high above the land they can watch the wind sending ribbons of snow toward the sea, making it look as if plumes of steam instead of snow are sweeping across the glacier’s frozen white waves. As a person looking for antarctica tours you should visit that site.

It was back in 1909 that a hardy team of explorers spent 134 days on an laborious journey of some 2030 kilometers across the treacherous ice to become the first ever to reach the South Magnetic Pole. Today’s flight reached the South Magnetic Pole a mere four hours after having left,.  Passengers were treated to a several hour air tour over the planet’s last frontier, Antarctica.

The south pole is amazing, not just for it’s vast and barren wilderness but also for the scientific properties it holds due to it’s strong magnetic forces that can cause all sorts of interesting changes to instrumentation. Because of it’s strong magnetic pull, the planes that fly over it have other instruments that prevent them from being knocked off course. The geographic South Pole, not the same thing, is located over 1,500 miles away on the continent itself; it was also first reached by explorers in the early 1900s. Richard E. Byrd, an American aviator, claimed to have made the first flights in the 1920s over both the North Pole and the South Pole.

The sweeping, icy winds of Antarctica begin to churn all around the airliner. However, the inside the plane is delightful, with some passengers dressed in shorts and t-shirts, while languidly sipping chardonnay. Since the first iceberg sightings, just three hours from, there has been a party-like atmosphere on the flight. The best vantage points for iceberg-viewing are sought out, as sightseers of all ages travel the plane to look out the windows. Visit this site for further information on antarctica vacations.

As the plane gets closer to the magnetic South Pole, the icebergs begin to multiply and begin to take on unusual geometrical shapes along the Antarctic coast, shining like bits of glass and broken mirror in a striking display against the dark blue sea. Some passengers take photos and shoot videos from the cabin windows, while others just sit in awe and enjoy the inspiration view of the floating bodies down below in the sea. Another spectacular view comes when the plan flies into view of the white ice capped Trans Antarctic Mountains that tower high into the sky.

In the past, two major airlines offered regular flights for tourists over Antarctica. Not only do the passengers get to see the glaciers, mountains, coasts and icebergs, but they can also fly over an abandoned French research base.  It used to be a penguin colony before the French took over.  A tidal wave later destroyed the base. This base isn’t very far from the Magnetic South Pole, which was first found by geologists.

Gonna Go To Hawaii To Play Some Golf

August 28th, 2010 |

With its comfortable weather and year round moderate temperatures, it is no surprise that Hawaii is home to some of the best golfing in the nation. For golfers and non-golfers alike, the towns of Kihei and Princeville offer entertainment in the sun and plenty of chances to explore the great outdoors. Golf courses, the volcano parks, and plenty of beaches make this segment of the planet a chief vacation destination for adventure vacationers.

Kihei is a town on Maui’s southern shore. It is situated on the leeward side of the volcano called Haleakala. The local climate is arid and the town receives no more than 10 inches of rainfall per year, making it an ideal spot for the year round golfer. Beach vacations that contain a round or two of golf with a view of the ocean is simply a spectacular afternoon.

Some of the better known courses in the vicinity include the Maui Elleair Golf Club. This is a course which has 6,404 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. It was planned by Bill Newis and opened in 1987. The Wailea Golf Club is another destination for the avid golfer. This is an 18 hole course which contains 6,758 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. It was designed by Arthur Jack Snyder and opened in 1971. The Makena Golf Courses are also worth a round or two, as they accept continuously extremely positive testimonials and take advantage of the fairly arid weather conditions on the leeward side of the volcano.

For persons interested in romantic travel and outdoor adventure while exploring Kihei, the Haleakala National Park is at your doorstep. This is a 30,183 acre National Park which envelopes the crater of the volcano. 24,719 acres of the park are designated as wilds and are offered to hikers and backpackers. The park comprises the summit depression, Kipahulu Valley on the southeast, and a variety of secluded streams and pools. The park extends to the shore. For individuals interested in hiking, there are two core trails leading into Haleakala from the summit. These are known as Sliding Sands Trail and Halemauu Trail.

It’s essential to mention a few items about the trails and park for the volcano adventurer. The high altitude at the summit of the volcano means that some of the hiking can be more arduous than you might expect. Temperatures are cool, but dehydration is a real risk.

On the north shore of the island of Kaua’I is Princeville, a small town that really loves its golf. Princeville contains two world class championship golf courses called Prince Golf Course and Makai Golf Course. Together they comprise 45 holes of superbly designed golf. The courses have earned Golf Digest’s score of number one in the State of Hawaii. Golf Digest also ranked the courses as number 14 in its record of America’s Best Resort Golf Courses and number thirty nine in America’s Top 100 Greatest Courses.

Antarctica Carries A Flood Of Resources We Can Use

August 23rd, 2010 |

Because only Antarctica can offer the unique scientific research sites it does, it has been set aside as a place for only science. The most striking characteristic of Antarctica proves to be the enormous ice shelf that covers over not simply nearly all of the land, but furthermore pushes out into the water as a permanent floating ice shelf which exists sometimes hundred of miles across the sea. As big as the entire state of Texas, Ross Ice Shelf is the grandest of them all. Scientists have measured the movement of the ice sheets and determined that every year, the ice mass travels 1800 feet. You can get the best antarctica cruises information by visiting this website.

Though the continent holds ninety percent of the planet’s ice, it only has two percent of all the water. The endurance of the great inland ice maintains sea level worldwide. Melting of this ice would radically alter coastlines and destroy current seaports.

The insanity of it is that if all the ice melted, sea level would rise an astounding 250 feet. That’s why it is so important for us to find out exactly what is going on with the Antarctic icecap’s health. It doesn’t really matter if the shelf is moving forward or backward. In theory, this enormous sheet of ice contains a complete record of all geophysical events from today all the way back to potentially a million years.

Layers in the ice have recorded the use of leaded gasoline, major lead smelting and even nuclear explosions. Scientists have examined how much lead has particulated on the ice since 1950. Because we have burned leaded gasoline, the decomposed lead alkyls have created an increase in the lead concentration on the surface of the ice, and these levels have been increasing steadily over the last ten years. Maybe at last we will begin to understand the serious danger posed by pollution. Go to this site for further information on adventure antarctica cruises.

DDT was not identified in the polar snows of Antarctica, even though it was found in seals, penguins, and some fish and marine life living there. Objects from space that have crashed into earth from the time of the existence of this enormous ice shelf may be dated according to their positions in the different layers of the ice. Assuming that additional research uncovers that these particles contain a revolving pattern, then predictions concerning the amount and type of space particles that vehicles will run into can be determined.

Most examples of living vegetation on Antarctica are lichens. Springtails and mites prove to be the most common land animals. A wingless fly is the biggest animal found in Antarctica; no insects can fly there. In Antarctica?s waters, you?ll find the southernmost mammals.  They are the Weddell seal and flightless penguin. This Weddell Seal is an amazing creature.  It can dive up to 1500 feet and not surface for air for over 30 minutes.

Adelie penguins make their nests on land without ice along the Antarctica coast, and they move north each winter. Using the sun and their own biological traits, they can maintain a very straight course to their next destination. It took three Adelies ten months to travel the 2400 miles back to their rookery.  Six had been transferred. They were taken to the South Pole where they were let free. After they were released, they studied their surroundings a while, fixed their gaze on the sun, and then headed off in precisely the right course for their home nests.

The existence of the greatest animal to ever exist demonstrates the life supporting capabilities of this area. Five times bigger than the largest recorded dinosaur, the almost extinct great blue whale eats one ton of shrimp a day. Numerous additional fish species dwell in the Antarctic seas than in the Arctic Sea. A stunning proof of the efficiency of the Antarctic Convergence lies in the statistic that 90 percent of all bottom dwelling Antarctic fish can not be discovered anywhere else on earth.

Make Sure To Take Your Iron In Florida

August 23rd, 2010 |

Florida and golf are a likely combination. In spite of the summer rains, Florida is known as the Sunshine State for a reason. Several towns experience more than 300 days of sunshine a year. For golfing fanatics, Florida is a genuine paradise.

The central Florida communities of Kissimmee, Davenport, Clermont, and Orlando lay claim to a large number of outstanding golf courses. Some of the best golfers in the world reside in this segment of the country.  Tiger Woods’ main residence is just southwest of Orlando. In fact, Orlando itself is home to nearly 90 public golf courses and a multitude of private courses. Beyond the well-known theme parks, family attractions and numerous beach vacation rentals , golf is a major ingredient of the central Florida experience.

Eagle Creek is a Scottish style course found just southeast of the Orlando International Airport. It contains revetted bunkers and other elements of golf that can generally only be enjoyed in Scotland. The Grande Pines Golf Club is located in close proximity to Sea World in central Orlando, just off International Drive. Newly renovated, the course was considered to be one of the greatest before the redesign, and is now habitually showered with praise from experts and amateur golfers alike.

Of course, Orlando is just one town in central Florida where golfing is key to the tourist market. Davenport, a small town located on US Highway 17/92 in Polk County, southwest of Orlando, offers unexpectedly top-quality courses. The Ridgewood Golf Club at Davenport was voted one of Florida’s top 30 courses. The course was planned by Ted McAnlis and has an extraordinary reputation. The club offers Champions Turf greens, new bunkers, leveled tee boxes and the sort of lush landscaping that golfers in Florida have come to expect.

Another Scottish style course in the area is the Highlands Reserve Golf Resort north of Davenport. This course boasts exceptional surroundings and is located on one of the highest points in Florida. Old Florida citrus trees adorn the edges of the course and scattered pines are reminiscent of courses in the Carolinas.

Kissimmee, Florida is nearly adjacent to Orlando and is commonly used by guests as a base of operations when traveling to the attractions in Orlando. But Kissimmee has lots to offer in its own right, including the Kissimmee Bay Country Club which was voted as one of America’s Best New Courses by Golf Digest in the 1990s. The course is 11 miles from the Orlando Airport and features the physical beauty of a lakeside environment cooled by rambling oak trees and abundant wildlife. Kissimme provides the kind of bed breakfasts you may be searching for while also including family fun.

The neighboring city of Clermont has nine public courses, which is a huge number for a town of only 13,000 citizens. The more well-known of these courses include The Legends Golf and Country Club, Kings Ridge Golf Club, Swiss Fairways, Green Valley Country Club, and Sanctuary Ridge Golf.

Ideas For A Great Adventure Vacation

August 22nd, 2010 |

Do you dream of being an adventurer? Do you picture yourself touring a remote land, scaling an extreme mountain or just trying something new? Do you get a rush from pushing your limits and expanding your horizons? If so, why are you settling for a ho-hum vacation? Why are you settling for sitting around and doing nothing? Why not try something active? No matter what kind of activity you enjoy or what boundary you want to push there are adventure travels out there just waiting for you to book them? Here are some options for individuals who have gotten bored by taking the same old vacation they always take. Before you go on, read some of our favorite cruise line ratings.

Mountain climbing is a thrilling example of extreme adventure travels. The West Coast Mountain Guides take adventuring tourists out on climbing expeditions on a regular basis. You can pick from locations throughout the western Canadian provinces. Travelers can choose from rock climbing, ice climbing or even snow mountaineering. If you are yearning for adventure, they will take you on a journey that involves all three.

Before you even think of going on one of these trips, you need to consider getting in the best physical shape you can. Mountain climbing experiences are not to be had by apathetic and out-of-shape individuals!

Shark Diving is not for the faint of heart but it is incredibly exciting. The Shark Diver Company has diving packages that allow you to dive with the sharks in California and Mexico. These types of adventure travels are not cheap. Most travels like these cost about three thousand dollars for each person who goes on the trip. But most of these trips last for at least five days. You will want to make sure that you already have your diving certification before you go. You don’t want to be stuck up on the boat the whole time!

Tip: Looking for a hassle-free vacation, try an adventure cruise ship vacation!

Do you fantasize about seeing large game up close? Have you always wanted to see exotic animals in their natural habitats? Why not go on an African Safari. There are tour groups that journey all over the African continent. Pick on of the many trusted companies and let them show you hippos, elephants and giraffes in their homelands. See prides of lions and packs of hyenas. Watch birds you have only see in the zoo. If you enjoy animals, a Safari should be your top choice for an adventure travel.

Adventure travels don’t have to cost a lot (though they can sometimes be expensive). They do not have to be lengthy vacations. Some will only last for the day! Why would you choose to spend all of your time off from work being bored when you could spend it having some adventures? There are so many different adventure travel tours to take; the hardest part of your trip is going to be choosing where you want to go and what you want to do. Go have fun!

Last but not least, if you find yourself short on time try a one day cruise!

Delayed Trip Equals Sightseeing Galore

August 20th, 2010 |

After 18 days in icy Antarctica, the on time arrival at the airport must have seemed an especially warm homecoming. The four members of the Antarctic expedition were back at a hero’s party from nearly three weeks at the bottom of the Earth. For this reason, it was an extraordinary event and emotional and worthy record of history. As a person looking for antarctic cruise you should visit that site.

Bad weather kept the scientific expedition in Antarctica for about 10 more days than anticipated, so when the arrival day finally came, the welcome party was prepared. Close relatives and peers sat on the black plastic airport chairs peep in at the large windows on the landing field and glancing at their watches about an hour before the airplane had reached its destination. Beneath the hallway, there were 25 students draw together with teachers and parents, biting turkey sandwiches and were about to coddle their instructors with embrace.

In order to surprise them, welcome troops brought along balloons with a heart shape, lots of roses and of course, a streamer as a sign with images of penguins on it. Four members of the team brought two containers of meteorites which will later be taken photographs, cut open and tested and talks about their experience during the expedition. The expedition also included two retired NASA astronauts, a NASA scientist and a Chicago resident who, contributed significantly in funding part of the expedition. The trip took the team to Antarctica’s Patriot Hills, South Pole and Thiel Mountains not so high as the Rockies, but just as beautiful.

Bringing along a kind of technology led to a team member complaining about it back in the States. Unsatisfactory were the satellite phones. All they do is be a representation of what you left behind. Surely he will be continuing his prior occupation n a populated continent as a professor of astronomy and geology. This site teaches you about trips to antarctica.

Adventures for these people consisted of such trips to unfamiliar territories before. A solar eclipse from the coast of the Black Sea in Turkey was seen by two of them last summer together with their scientific team. Over there they actually found themselves in a similar situation as that of their unanticipated stay in the Antarctic. They stayed for a massive earthquake even if they went there to be able to view the solar eclipse. Luckily the two were 200 miles away from the epicenter of the earthquake and so they only encountered a magnitude of 5.5.

Camaraderie on the trip was what he considered to be the best part of the trip and he also said that there was less stress with images of blue fields and snow covered scenery. When it comes to the team that had a retired NASA scientist it was described as an exclusive club. This group of people was down to earth and you could easily speak with them. Much fun and zero egos is what they believed in. Days in Antarctica, expected or otherwise, were spent with much reading, talking, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing as well.

It was about a month ago when a the 24 year old team member shared with reporters and staff members her outfit for the trip and it includes boots, goggles, heavy gloves, and an energetic smile. What she wore back home were jeans and sneakers plus a sweatshirt to go with her cheerful smile. Her voyage to the Mars like continent was a result of her using space science in her classes. Such a trip provided students with an unusual opportunity. It is possible to learn as things are tied in. An explorer for a teacher means that kids are exposed to science and history.

She did some experiments on this trip and just like what the students back home were doing they were on rocks, temperature, and gravity. What they used to send the data to the 11 classrooms were satellite phone and email. You could say that the questions and the answers were rather comical. Much variety was to blame for why the answers were funny. Being in a snowy desert with temperatures almost below zero can affect results and this was what the students learned from her experience.

Atlantis: Fact Or Fiction?

August 19th, 2010 |

Hundreds of books and movies have speculated about the fabled lost island empire of Atlantis. Remaining unanswered are queries about what it was and where it is. This is a firm statement  May a person be an amateur sleuth or a professional researcher, Atlantis will never cease to bewilder people just as it did after being mentioned in Timaeus and Critias, two essays by the Greek philosopher Plato in 360 BC. One popular Internet bookstore offers 438 titles on the subject. Disney has just released a new full length animated movie, Atlantis The Lost Empire. Read this site if you want antarctica tours information.

With regard to the authenticity of the sacred island of Atlantis, a land beholding the light of the sun and bringing forth an infinite abundance, many scholars who believe in it agree that Plato could not have made things up. Is Atlantis Attributable to some other historian other than Plato? When Plato introduced Atlantis to the people, he was never able to say how factual it is for he died twelve years later.

But Solon, the historian Plato quotes about Atlantis, certainly was a real person. Skeptics think it’s possible Solon made the whole thing up, and Plato believed in a fable. Plato was indeed an intellectual person but he lacked the capacity for detail and so when it comes to Atlantis being a series of rings, the royal palace and cities flowing through dug out canals, intricate statues and similar bath houses, these could not been things that he could easily think up.

It is puzzling to conceptualize how long of a period of time Atlantis could have probably existed for Plato said that it was destroyed in 9000 BC but the kind of advancement it has can easily create nuclear bombs not to mention flying machines that take lifetimes to develop. Then there is the question of where Atlantis is located exactly. Atlantis was believed to have been in Thira which was claimed by a volcano in 1470 BC. This site teaches you about trips to antarctica.

Probably the Azores in the Atlantic off of the coast of Spain could be another possible Atlantis location. In the location of new underwater ruins comes about an attribution to Atlantis as the source. When they sailed, European explorers would make use of maps that had Atlantis located in some place.

Any bit of traveling was done via flying machines made from the skins of the elephants they had. When it comes to Atlantis, another location is off of the coast of today’s Bimini. Considering the devastation that occurred, some lives were spared. Coming to Egypt resulted in these survivors being able to share their vast knowledge to the entire world. For the records of Atlantis, a secret chamber in the Great Sphinx contains them.

No ice was in Antarctica aside from 4000 BC. Everything started with either an underground explosions or a seismic upheaval. Most of these were capable of destroying entire civilizations. There was an author who said that he did extensive research about Atlantis before he wrote about it and he discovered that it existed off of the Atlantic Ocean. Absence can be associated with a prior nuclear explosion. In the past nuclear weapons were also available just like today. To blame for the demise of Atlantis was a nuclear explosion caused by people during the civil war.
