Recommended holidays for next year, something different!

February 7th, 2010 |

Now it is time for us to provide you with something special to take into next year with you. It’s time that we get ready to book those all important family holidays or holidays with the wife/husband. The Recession appears to be slowing down, and now we seem to be getting some extra cash, now this year a chance of us buying a holiday has really gone up.

Although these holidays are not the most popular at the moment, soon they could very well become recognised as top contenders. There are many places that have to compete with other destinations close to them, and Hurghada has this problem. Only certain people want to go on these holidays, because it needs to get it’s name out there. Hurghada has only really recently been discovered as a potentially massive tourist opportunity, Sharm El Sheikh had always had dominance over other places in Egypt. The same qualities you find in Sharm can also be found in Hurghada, some of the diving is even better. Diving in Hurghada is the biggest attraction and so are camel rides, there is so much to do with such diversity as well.

Sri Lanka is one of the newest in a selection of must go to holidays in the world. It hasn’t been all that safe and secure for tourists to travel to Sri Lanka mainly because of the long running civil war, which has calmed recently. Described by many as a place for people to find themselves, this holiday location provides some truly gorgeous surroundings. Sri Lanka has some of the most amazing spa hotels, and this seems to be one of the biggest attractions for some people, and now they even have tours for safaris.

The Caribbean is the next location, but a country in particular. The Cuba holiday is very popular already, but the amount of people visiting year on year is constantly growing. Welcome to the past, that should be Cuba’s pull for tourists, it is quite literally like walking back in time when you visit. These holidays have gone from strength to strength.

All you need to do is choose one of these vacations, Sri Lanka holidays, Cuba holidays and Hurghada holidays, what do you think!

What is the reason for going on holiday?

January 27th, 2010 |

People across my county found this question quite hard to answer. Or some just hesitate for a while and then blurt something out. The other answer, that is somewhat annoying is the one that goes something like “Because we wanted to”! So there is in short, no real actual reason for anybody going on holiday if this is the case. There must be some sort of notion behind you wanting to go on holiday, but what is it?

I came across some people who just wanted the time off work, and mumbled incessantly. This answer does appeal to me, as it means people have a general idea of what they want to do. I think that if you feel this way, that your job is that bad you really desperately need the time off, then this job isn’t for you!

When we get to that day of the week, what is it called, oh yeah; Friday, is the weekend not time off work? Meeting new people and living with a completely different culture, this is a holiday that actually has meaning, although not many people gave this answer. This is really a planned holiday, and something that is good for body and mind, not to mention the chance to do something really different. This is a much more sensible answer, you want to further your knowledge of the world.

Now the answer that really rubbed me up the wrong way was “Because there is nothing else to do”! Well, those people i just say “GRRRR”. How can you say there isn’t anything better, you what, excuse me that makes no sense! This is not good for my Brain, I don’t want to here this, once again another answer that doesn’t actually answer anything.

However, do we all have to have a REASON to go on holiday? Well in simple truth, NO you don’t, its up to you. Don’t let anyone else tell you any different.

For Caribbean holidays, Maldives holidays, Sri Lanka holidays, maybe you should visit a tour operator!

Sightseeing on Lanzarote

December 31st, 2009 |

Lanzarote is a popular holiday island, located in the Canaries.  Which are the seven strong Spanish owned island group situated off the coast of West Africa.  On the same line of longitude as parts of Mexico and the Bahamas.  Enabling visitors to enjoy great weather whatever the time of the year. This wonderful weather has helped the Canaries to become the second most visited holiday destination in Spain.  With over 1.5 million tourists enjoying their holidays in Lanzarote – the fourth largest of the islands – over the course of last year alone.

So lets check out a little more about the island and island life to see why winter holidays in Lanzarote remain so popular and choosing one of the villas in Lanzarote that the island has to offer is becoming an increasingly popular holiday accommodation  choice for travellers.

Lanzarote has a unique character and charm.  And is much drier, more arid and barren than the other seven islands.  Thanks to the fact that it experiences very little in the way of rainfall and boasts a volcanic terrain created by years of violent eruptions during the 1730´s.

This volcanic region – called Timanfaya - was declared a national park back in 1974 – and dominates the island’s interior.  It’s also the most popular sight on Lanzarote thanks to its incredible lunar like scenery.  Which in the past has earned the region a number of starring roles in major movie productions.  Most recently Broken Embraces starring Penelope Cruz, the latest release from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar.

Lanzarote´s tourist industry has been operating for over forty years so there are plenty of god quality places to stay.  Ranging from cheap apartments through to luxurious Lanzarote villas and hotels.  With most of the accommodation located in the three main tourist resorts of Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.  Demand for rural holidays has also started to grow over the last few years.

As well as the volcanic region Lanzarote is a real beach lover’s paradise, home to about 90 fine stretches of sand.  The best of which can be found outside the main resorts in locations such as Famara and Arrieta.  Both of which are still unspoiled coastal villages.

Lanzarote was unfairly dubbed Lanzagrotty by Michael Palin during the 1970´s.  But this epithet couldn’t be further from the truth.  As the island offers a wealth of cultural attractions.  With over a dozen museums – such as the fascinating house musem the Palacio Spinola in Teguise.  Which provides an insight into the life of an 18th century island merchant.  Along with the many works of the local artist César Manrique.  Who famously fought for the controlled development of tourism on the island of his birth.

Top Resorts in Lanzarote

December 31st, 2009 |

The popular holiday island of Lanzarote in the Canaries is home to three main resorts.  As well as the emerging marina of Puerto Calero – where visitors will find two upmarket hotels and an abundance of expensive yachts and craft from around the world.

Each of these destinations offers something different – boasting their own unique character and identity.  Whilst also offering a wide range of accommodation options encompassing everything from Lanzarote villas through to budget studio apartments.

So lets have a look at some of the best holiday hotspots that have an excellent selection of Lanzarote apartments.

Puerto del Carmen

Before the arrival of tourism Puerto del Carmen was known to locals as La Tiñosa.  A sleepy little fishing village on Lanzarote´s south east coastline.Package holidays changed all that though and now the resort extends for some 8km away from its original hub in the Old Town harbour area.Today, it is Lanzarote´s most popular destination by some distance – offering good value apartment accommodation.  As well as a number of four star hotels and high quality villas.

Puerto del Carmen is an ideal location for all types of holiday makers.  As the resort is perfect for families with young children. Thanks to the fine quality of the resort’s blue flag beaches.  Whilst also offering lots of child friendly attractions such as the Rancho Texas Theme Park – which offers kids an abundance of Wild West themed fun and games.

Costa Teguise Villas and Apartments

Situated towards the northern end of the island Costa Teguise is just a short hop away from Arrecife airport.  And started life as Lanzarote´s upmarket resort.  Designed to attract moneyed Scandinavian and German tourists during the early boom years of the 1970´s.

Costa Teguise´s excellent beaches and wide open plan feel helped to establish this as the second most popular spot on the island during the 1980´s.  But that crown slipped somewhat during the 1990´s as the resort rival of Playa Blanca was developed at the southern end of the island.  However it still remains an attractive destination and there’s plenty of hotels and holiday villas in Costa Teguise for visitors to choose from.

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca was developed much later than the other resorts during the 1990´s.  Quickly establishing itself as the second most popular holiday destination on the island.  Thanks to its great beaches and splendid microclimate.  A factor that becomes especially salient during the winter months.

There are three main beaches within the resort itself in the form of Playa Dorada, Playa Flamingo and Playa Blanca.  Whilst the famously picturesque coves and bays of Papagayo are around a fifteen minute walk away from the town centre.

Vacations In Birmingham, England and Some Useful Information

December 28th, 2009 |

Currently more tourists are searching for new holiday destinations which have something utterly unique or, at least something different to the usual sunny beach holiday. During these difficult times many groups of folk are, alarmingly realizing that they have a great deal less money for investing in a family vacation and are, frustratingly, forced to cutting corners to save money. A way of meeting this requirement is to seek out cheaper resorts. The following article introduces the reader to Birmingham in the United Kingdom. With the British pound so weak against the euro and dollar hotel accommodation in Birmingham so much cheaper now.

The city of Birmingham is situated in the county of England called the West Midlands  and the folk who live in the city are referred to as being “Brummies”. The accent of Birmingham sounds like those from other northern English cities and it is very tricky to follow what is being said a struggle which is made worse if if you are unfamiliar with such dialects. Thankfully the majority of folk from Birminham are polite, kind and extremely helpful and do their very best to explain so if the need arises do not hesitate to approach people about directions and help or guidance in locating  Birmingham bed and breakfast accommodation.

Birmingham possesses  an excellent collection of visitor attractions which include some highly informative museums and galleries, for example the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Museum of the Jewellery Quarter and the new museum called Thinktank in the Eastside. The city also has a huge number of acres of parkland and woodland, Sutton Park being the largest having 970 hectares making it the largest urban nature reserve in Europe.

The city features a varied and vibrant night life with many restaurants, cafes, bars, wine bars and nightclubs. You will discover the most popular in one of the city’s squares, Victoria Square, Centenary Square, St Martin’s Square, Chamberlain Square, Rotunda Square, the historic Old Square at Corporation Street and the Gas Street Basin. Gas Street Basin is the central hub of the city’s intricate canal network. The city has approximately 32 miles of canals with a total of 8 canals which were created during the eighteenth century and remained in use nearly until the end of the twentieth century. Today the Gas Street Basin has been renovated and is now a pretty decent tourist attraction.

Why you should consider Holidays in the UK in 2010

December 22nd, 2009 |

A lot of families will argue over where they want to go on holiday, children will want to go to the beach or water parks, teenagers will want to lie by the pool and work on their tan and mum and dad will just want some peace and quiet as well as some much needed rest from work. It can be hard to find a destination that the whole family want and so there’s often compromises made.

Next year the whole family may be better off considering UK holiday parks as there truly is something for everyone. Whilst many families may have wanted to specifically get away to somewhere abroad in the past it’s now getting to the point where flying abroad is becoming a major hassle and thanks to rising flight costs and budget airline closures it is becoming increasingly expensive for most families.

This doesn’t mean that UK holidays are the wet weekend many mis-informed people have painted them as. Here in the UK our summers seem to be getting hotter as the years go by, which means that we are able to make the most of the great British countryside and coastline. The famous holiday parks that are located near to many of the famous coastline resorts have always been a family friendly holiday hot spot and in the past year alone they have seen massive increases in UK family bookings.

The numbers of current and favourite entertainers that have performed at the UK holiday parks have ranged from UK Pop music acts, X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent contestants as well as American WWE wrestlers and a wide range of other acts that will spark each member of the family’s interest.

The large number of activities during the day such as sports and games will keep children of all ages active as well as some other fun activities such as go-karting, trampolining and there’s always the beach nearby. If the weather sours then that’s not the end of the day, many activities are carried out indoors and there are even some parks that have indoor water parks that you’ll have trouble trying to get the children to leave at the end of the day!

Holidays in the UK are not only less hassle and expensive than flying away on a plane (that’s obviously assuming your flight doesn’t get delayed) but there are much more activities and entertainment than holidaying abroad where if the weather takes a turn for the worse then you will likely be herded indoors where there is little else you can do. So for great family holidays whatever the weather choose the UK for your 2010 family holidays!

With UK holiday parks at resorts all over the country it’s easier than ever to find your local family holidays destination.

Canary Island Breaks On Lanzarote

December 17th, 2009 |

Lanzarote is a favourite holiday destination for many European holiday makers and is situated in the Atlantic Ocean not far from the African coastline. And is part of the Canarian archipelago, once thought by scholars to be the remnants of the lost city of Atlantis.  Today however Lanzarote and the Canaries enjoy the crown of the second most visited region in Spain even though it is not on the European mainland .

Yet these seven Spanish owned islands are by no means all birds of a feather, As each has its own separate character and culture.  For example with the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura being governed from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria.  Whilst El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma are governed from the larger island of Tenerfie.

Intrepid Victorian travellers were visiting Lanzarote as early as the 19th century .  But more modern tourism was stifled for many years by the political regime of General Franco, and didn’t really start again until the 70’s As the area was in desperate need of a boost to its economy after years of restriction.

Today the island is happy to welcome visitors that number into the millions as they arrive from all over Europe and other parts of the world, and bizarrely even tourist from the Spanish mainland.  Many of which prefer the slightly cooler climate that can be found on the islands compared to the blistering heat that I often found on the mainland in the height of the summer months.

It used to be one of the only ways to book a holiday was via a travel agent, but as the world has “shrunk” with the arrival of the internet generation and cross border commerce is readily available even to the end consumer and increasing number of travellers are deciding to go the independent route.  The upshot of this is that there has been a surge in demand for holiday apartments and villas in Lanzarote. With self catering accommodation in the main resorts making up a sizeable proportion of the total number of tourist beds now available here.

The most luxurious private accommodation and villas in Puerto del Carmen can be found in areas such as Risco Prieto.  Which sits right at the top of the Old Town, overlooking the traditional harbour area which is in the process of redevelopment (Lanzarote style) into a luxury marina.

Whilst holidaymakers on the lookout for villas in Playa Blanca should would be best looking at the Montana Roja and Rubicon Marina areas.  As this is where the largest crop of good quality rental properties are located within the resort.

Rural holidays in Lanzarote have also started to grow in popularity over the last few years.  Visitors that are a little more adventurous and tour the island are surprised to find how much of its natural beauty has been maintained despite the amount of tourism.  This ultimately prompts many to return to experience the real Lanzarote in countryside fincas and rural accommodation.

Where to stay during your holiday in the UK

December 10th, 2009 |

A lot more people are holidaying in the UK these days as money has become a major issue for some families. It’s not just that, flying to foreign countries has gone from being cheap and cheerful to expensive and treacherous with airlines going out of business stranding their customers and hidden charges and fines if you don’t jump through their hoops.

Couple this with the wide range of activities and entertainment on offer at local holiday parks here in England why would you want to go abroad? The UK family holiday used to always be taken at UK beach resorts such as Blackpool and Skegness, with the beaches lined with deck chairs and many sandcastles being built along the waterfront.

These days since more and more UK families have started holidaying at home at these holiday parks the parks have struggled to cope with demand, so much so that they are already investing in extra accommodation to avoid having to turn people away next summer! So where can we stay when travelling to these holiday parks? Well unlike holidays abroad where you have to choose either a high rise hotel or an even taller high rise hotel here in the UK there are much more options that are family friendly as well as being at a decent price.

The hotels that UK holiday parks have fully understand who they are hosting, typically young families. These hotels have therefore been designed from the ground up to be best suited for young families, this includes many family friendly features such as wide corridors, cot facilities and even a children’s den with bunk beds and their own DVD player.

Sometimes families would rather have self contained holiday apartments so they can cook in their room if they feel like it. Self catered accommodation is very popular for families as they tend to have separate bedrooms, a lounge area and kitchen and dining facilities.

Many holiday parks are also caravan friendly for those looking for a holiday with plenty of self-reliance. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes though for when you fancy a night off to relax. Caravan parks are usually located right next to the holiday parks so you never need to travel too far to enjoy the entertainment and activities.

So there’s plenty of choice at UK holiday parks which makes it clear to see that holidaying in the UK has really come along and can offer much more activities to rival any foreign holiday.

If you’re looking for cheap family holidays this year then you could try the Ocean Hotel in Bognor Regis, and relax at the Ocean Spa.
