A Total Preview Of The Ping G20 Driver
May 21st, 2012 |Introduction
The past two decades, Ping have been seen for their solid golf clubs. The Ping G series have been seen for its great feel and the new Ping G20 isn’t an exception. Ping claims that this new driver can be used by any and all players, from the noobs to the pros. Its look has similarities to all the other G series drivers, but its main difference is its technical enhancements to help the average golfer to hit the ball higher and farther. The club has an external weight that may help you launch the ball and it can be switched out after you get fitted for your clubs. Check out our Ping G20 driver review to determine if this a club you would be interested in.
Overview
On the surface, the G20 is 2 grams heavier than the G15, however it essentially feels lighter when you swing the club. This is generally due to the balance point being found to a different location in the shaft. As it feels lighter, one would be inclined to assume that you would be able to create more clubhead speed. But actually it generates about the same speed as before. Its sweet spot is bigger so it will help golfers drive the ball better when hitting the ball outside of the sweet spot. There is a tendency for you to drag the driver though, so align yourself correctly.
The Good
One of the distinct blessings of this driver is you can align the club head easier. The align mark is firmly visible from the club and when looking down on the club it is simply obvious. The feel you’ll get when making contact with the ball totally different and miles better than its prior counterparts. Its balance is way better than any of Ping has made before. The balance is dissimilar because it feels lighter somehow. The MSRP is only $329, so you don?t have to break the bank if you would like to buy the new Ping G20.
The Bad
The Ping G20’s downside is that it only includes two stock shafts. But even that doesn’t make a difference since they’re the same 2 shafts the other Ping drivers come within the G series. If what you prefer from your club are far more shaft selections then this club is not for you. You also can’t get lots of feedback from the driver when you mishit the ball. It is also hard to feel where the club head is in your back swing, so the only possible way to fix your position is by videotaping yourself during your swing.
Bottom Line
The Ping G20 is the better driver than the previously made Ping clubs with its feel, launch angle and low spin. This club is for you if you are a beginning or a medium-handicap golfer. But if you want more feel for your driver, then this driver isn’t for you. This will improve the driving accuracy and distance of the average golfer, but it might not help much for the experienced golfer. Although the Ping G20 is definitely an advance over the other Ping drivers, its improvement isn’t actually that great. This driver isn’t that special compared to the G10 or the G15, so if you already have these drivers then it is highly desirable that you steer clear of this driver.
