Information About Henley Royal Regatta
Henley Regatta is a rowing event that takes place in London once a year. Also known as Henley Regatta, it should not be confused with other regattas such as Henley women’s or Henley veterans which are totally different. The first Regatta was organised in 1839, a few years after the success of the first Cambridge and Oxford ones. It became Royal after Prince Albert became the first royal to take part in the Regatta. Since Prince Albert died, every single king and queen agreed to be the offici al patron of the event. Apart from the Queen, many other Royal family members tend to participate in the Regatta every year.
Every first week of July and for 5 days, the Regatta attracts people from all around the world. It is a very prestigious event and definitely one of the biggest ones in rowing internationally. Whoever is interested to apply needs to be proactive and let the organisers know well in advance as each race has limited number of places. Planning well in advance is strongly recommended for the ones who don’t want to miss it.
The original course of the race was changed twice over the years and now covers a 500 distance from the Temple Island until Henley bridge. All athletes are surrounded by plenty of safety boats in order to ensure health and safety and it can be said that it is a very safe event. It wasn’t too long ago when it was decided that women could participate in the Regatta.
Henley Regatta is very popular among companies and big corporate that take part and some see it as one of the major corporate events taking place annually. Corporate hospitality is another reason that attracts more and more companies and for some people the character of the event is being changing during the recent years.
