Golf Swing Mechanics
As a keen golfer you will know only too well that there are so many facets to the game for you to master. In all likelihood the most important skill to get right at the outset is the golf swingl. The hours spent perfecting this vital skill will ultimately prove to be invaluable. The golf swing is to many golfers one of the most, if not the most, frustrating aspects of the game of golf.
Golfers are often changing their swing to get more distance or to correct problems like a slice or a hook. Actually, though, the golf swing is just a matter of mechanics and arranging body motions together in the correct way to be consistent. But experienced golfers understand this is easier said than done.
Let us consider the basics of a good golf swing
* Your starting position should be roughly shoulder width apart and your feet should be pointing slightly out – but not too much!
* Let your arms to hang naturally down from your body and place the club behind the ball. If your shoulders hunch over or you have tenseness in your arms, you are in all probability too close to the ball. Keep one’s distance a little bit.
* Put about 70 percent of your body weight on your back leg.
* Straighten out your spine and have a little bit of a bend in your knees.
* Keep your eye on the ball during your entire swing
* Hold the club as if you are carrying a small, fragile bird. You want to hold the bird in your hands, but you do not want to squash it either. That is how you should hold your club.
* An effective golf swing will be a fluent, comfortable motion with your shoulders turning slightly in the backswing and your follow-through complete.
* Make certain you keep your feet planted and slow down in your backswing. Just about all problems with a golf swing are induced by swinging too quickly in the back swing and then not accelerating through the ball.
* The intention will always be to hit the ball in the center. Hitting it anywhere else will cause your ball to travel in directions that you really don’t want it to go in. And we all know how frustrating that is.
* Then grip it and let it rip!
It may be of benefit to you to take a lesson or two on the golf swing or even watch the way the professionals do it on the television. You will be able to find many articles and websites providing golf swing tips, so why not use them and learn from them. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect, so, practice, practice, practice. And after you have practised, then practice some more.
Learning to swing a golf club takes years of practice as any keen golfer will tell you. You will need to master a hundred and one techniques and more and they all have to be working in exactly the right ways at exactly the right time to a have a good, consistent golf swing. Sometimes this just doesn’t happen, but when it does, it certainly is a great feeling! Just stick at it and don’t get too despondent if you do not get it right straightaway. If you stick to the principles and are committed to the effort and the practice you will get it right.
Above all else, enjoy your golf. All golfers will agree that it is a truly fascinating and enjoyable game to play.
